ARod Out Of Yanks' Sunday Lineup

By Larry Barnes | Yankees 'n More
Third baseman Alex Rodriguez is out of the lineup for the New York Yankees Sunday night, one day after being removed from a game due to tightness in his oblique and lower back.

The issue was not thought to be serious, and this could well be just a precautionary move on the part of the Joe Girardi and the Yankees. After all, with an off day on Monday, sitting Rodriguez tonight offers New York a great opportunity for extra rest/recovery.

The Yankees played a day game on Saturday and will, after tonight, next play Tuesday evening in Toronto. That means ARod, assuming he sits the entirety of tonight's series finale' with the Rangers, will have more than three full days off between games. So sitting him makes all the sense in the world.

Moreover, the Yankees face a filthy right-hander tonight in the Rangers' Alexi Ogando. Not that you'd prefer anybody over a healthy Alex Rodriguez right now, but the hot-hitting lefty Eric Chavez isn't a bad consolation prize, under the circumstances.
***UPDATE: Our man Chavez comes through with a 2-out, game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. Arm now broken from patting self on back.***
